Insecurity: NAF to station trained dogs at airports, says Air Chief

As part of strategies to ensure maximum security of our environment and other places of special interest in the country,the Nigerian Airforce,NAF has established a special Dog Unit christened “K-9”.Chief of Air staff (CAS),Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar made the development public in Yola while celebrating Eid Kabir festival with men and officers fighting Boko Haram insurgency in the North East region.
Abubakar stated that, the highly trained dogs will be stationed at various airports and NAF bases around the nation with a view to detecting and exposing bad eggs among us as a people.
Abubakar said already some personnel of the unit had been trained by the Nigerian Police and some had gone for more training in South Africa.
“Very soon, the will be deploy to our air ports and bases to add value to what we are doing in terms of protection,” Abubakar said.
The CAS also said that NAF has embarked on restructuring to effectively deliver on its responsibilities to the nation.
He said that with the restructuring, the NAF would be better placed and equipped to deliver on its responsibilities.
“We are restructuring and that’s why we have two more commands; Special Operations Command and Ground Training Command.
“Very soon in all our units no technician will go for guard duty.
“We are building capacity in terms of having the required number of Special Forces so that those trained as special force will take over the defence of the base so that technicians concentrate on maintenance of aircraft.
“Right now we are training 450 special forces in Kaduna in phases,” he said.
