Delta PDP moves for reconciliation, mobilizes for voters’ registration

From Osakhare Erese, Asaba

Determined to improve on the number of registered voters and increase its votes count in forthcoming elections, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Oshimili South Local Government Area has set up committees to mobilize residents of the area to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
The Chairman of the party in the area, Ogbueshi Dada Okonji, who announced this yesterday during an enlarged executives and stakeholders' meeting held at the party's secretariat in Asaba, said that each of the 11 wards in the local government had their exercise is hitch-free.
Ogbuesho Okonji, while addressing the meeting, stated that besides mobilization of eligible voters to go and register or revalidate their registration, the committee will also help to educate the people on the need to own a voter card.
He recalled that if not for apathy on the part of some residents, Oshimili South Local Government Area could have recorded more votes in the 2015 elections, adding that the area would record impressive votes in the next election.
He enjoin the party executives, members of the committees, landlords and all PDP faithful to assist in educating the residents, especially their tenants and neighbours who are 18 years and above, to go and register and obtain a voter card.
Meanwhile, the party Ward 1, in Bomadi Local Government Area of the State, has set up party leaders reconciliation committee at a stakeholders' meeting held on Monday at the Bomadi town hall, with the aim of settling contending leaders in order to restructure the party in the ward, which move is not unconnected with the forthcoming voters registration exercise and the council poll in the state.
More so, a voter's registration committee was also inaugurated with the aim of sensitizing the people on the need to come out en masse for the registration exercise.
The meeting which was attended by party bigwigs in the ward, is aimed at building trust and unity within the ward, and most especially, among infighting leaders.
In his opening speech, the ward chairman, Mr. Tanko Awipi, said the essence of the meeting was to brainstorm on the way forward for the party in the ward, stressing that political leaders from the headquarters of the council area, which is under Ward 1, had every reason to speak in one voice as against the prevailing scenario.
He expressed optimism that at the end of the meeting, all grey areas within the party structure would be addressed, even as he further pledged support for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa's agenda of prosperity for all Deltans, stressing "we also support his ambition for 2019".
