The kidnapped permanent secretary of the Ondo State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Niran Ikuomola, has been released.
Ikuomola, was kidnapped along with his driver, on Sunday in Kogi State on his way to Abuja for an official assignment.
It would be recalled that the abductors called the family and demanded a sum of N70m ransom but later reduced the ransom to N20m, which the family could not afford.
According to a source, the victim was released on Friday but it was not confirmed if a ransom was eventually paid before the release of the medical doctor.
The details of how the senior civil servant was released were not available as of the time of filing this report as effort to reach the family on the telephone was unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, has hailed the heroic performance of the security agencies in the state, especially security personnel in the office of the governor for their efforts in ensuring that Ikuomola regained his freedom from the kidnappers.
In a statement signed on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Segun Ajiboye, the governor assured members of the public of his administration’s determination to continue to protect lives and properties, adding that no stone would be left unturned in ensuring that Ondo State is safe for all categories of peace-loving people.
Akeredolu urged all the relevant stakeholders in the state, including traditional rulers, religious bodies, youth groups and non-governmental organisations to be vigilant and volunteer information on suspects in their vicinities to security agencies for prompt actions.
