Stop paying 13 percent derivation to govs, oil communities urge Buhari

From Osakhare Erese, Asaba

Host oil communities in the Niger Delta region have urged the Federal Government to stop paying 13 percent derivation to the state governors.
They have also flayed the Federal Government alleged self-sustenance policies in the setting up of modular refineries, urging that the Federal Government should channel adequate resources to the project.
It was alleged that the Federal Government recently advocated self-sustenance policies in the setting up of modular refineries across the country.
But the host oil communities within the Niger-Delta region yesterday called on President Mohammadu Buhari not to pay the 13 percent derivation to governors in the Niger-Delta region, claiming that the 13 percent derivation meant to develop host communities has allegedly become a conduct pipe for the region governors to embezzle and short-change the host communities.
Comrade Elvis Mulade who spoke to journalists in Asaba on behalf of flow station/well, Head host communities of Nigeria, lamented lack of federal and state governments' presence in the riverine oil and gas producing areas.
He however called on Federal Government to back the proposed Gbaramatu Modular Refinery, saying that the kingdom had been naturally blessed with abundant resources.
His words: "let the Federal Government channel the resources into the building of modular refinery to end illegal bunkering, militancy and save our environment, FG should also tackle the issue of illegal refineries being operated by some powerful individuals in the region".
Meanwhile, the host oil communities have also called on the Federal Government to consider the host communities in the re-award of the pipeline surveillance jobs and contacts, adding that involving the host communities directly in the re-award of the pipeline surveillance jobs/contracts will end pipeline vandalism in the region.
Comrade Mulade implored President Buhari not to leave out the host oil communities in the project. He pointed out that Gbaramatu Kingdom had remained host to over 11 onshore and offshore oil fields including flow stations; Abiteye Ofumana, Makaraba oil fields/flow stations operated by Chevron Nigeria Limited, Jones Creek, Egwa I & II and Odidi I & II Oil fields and flow stations operated by SPDC.
